You may have noticed that many of your PayPal Fees imported on or after June 13, 2012 have been duplicated in Outright and categorized as “Uncategorized.”  Here is an update and what you can expect.

We have fixed this problem for new transactions.  As of June 27 at 10:00am PST, PayPal data will not contain duplicate fee transactions.

We are now working on a fix that will retroactively correct the transactions that imported from June 13-27th.

There is no need for you to make any changes to transactions that came in as duplicates during this time period.  If you have deleted or hidden the duplicates, that’s okay. You don’t need to do anything else.  As soon as this fix is ready, we will notify you.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.  Thank you for your continued patience and support while we work through and resolve this issue.

    Hello,

Many people have rightfully and accurately pointed out that the duplicated PayPal Fee problem impacted their data beyond the date range (June 13-27) that we have specified in our messaging about the issue.

While PayPal changed the way they classify their Fee data on June 13th, prompting Outright to duplicate & uncategorize those transactions, the impact was oftentimes retroactive, depending on when the PayPal account was updated in Outright.

What we have found is that if your PayPal importer was active between June 13th and June 27th, all of the data that was imported during that time was duplicated and uncategorized.  For many people, this included data that preceded June 13th.

We are aware of the breadth of this issue in many accounts.  We are currently working on a solution that will enable you to identify and treat all of these extraneous transactions, no matter what date they "posted" on.  In other words, don't worry if you have duplicated fee data outside of the June 13-27 date range.  We will enable you to find them all and manage them appropriately.

Thank you for your continued patience and support while we work to resolve this issue.

We're so sorry it took so long, but you can now easily remove all those duplicated PayPal fees.  Here's how...

If you have not edited the fees:

    • Go to the Expenses tab
    • Select “Fee” from the “All Payees” dropdown list and click the “Filter” button
    • Be sure to “load more” transactions until you can see all the transactions that meet these criteria
    • Click the “Edit Multiple” button
    • Click the checkbox next to the “Date” column header to select all transactions
    • Click the “Delete xx transactions” link to remove all these erroneous fees from your Outright account

If you have edited the fees and set the category as “HIDE (Wrong/Duplicate Expense)”:

    • Go to the Expenses tab and select “Non-business”
    • Select “Fee” from the “All Payees” dropdown list and click the “Filter” button
    • Be sure to “load more” transactions until you can see all the transactions that meet these criteria
    • Click the “Edit Multiple” button
    • Click the checkbox next to the “Date” column header to select all transactions
    • Click the “Delete xx transactions” link to remove all these erroneous fees from your Outright account
